Nursing Assistants often work with patients facing the end of life. As a member of the healthcare team, it is important to understand what happens during the dying process, how to recognize death is near, and how to support patients and their family. This course discusses how modern medicine approaches death and dying, the physical experience of death, and improving quality of life and increasing comfort while respecting patient wishes. In addition to caring for a terminally ill patient, this course also discusses how to help others cope with the death of a friend or loved one and how grief is normally expressed.
