EMS - Infections of the Respiratory System
Produced by: HealthStream
The respiratory system is a gas exchange system that supports life by bringing oxygen into the body for distribution to the cells as well as excreting carbon dioxide. As the first internal system to contact the outside environment, the respiratory system is prone to pathogenic invasion and subsequent infection. Infection of the respiratory system is a common reason for activation of the emergency medical services and threatens homeostasis by interfering with the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. This course reviews the respiratory system and presents specific infectious diseases that occur within the lungs. Techniques for assessment along with general and specific care measures for these infectious diseases are also discussed.
