Infant-Driven Feeding: Advancing Oral Feeding Practice in the NICUCE
Infant-Driven Feeding®
Infant-Driven Feeding®: Advancing Oral Feeding Practice in the NICU educates neonatal professionals in a systematic neurodevelopmental model of care created to advance oral feeding practice in the NICU. Sue Ludwig, OTR/L, NTMTC, and Kara Ann Waitzman, OTR/L, NTMTC, (co-founders of Infant-Driven Feeding®) demonstrate the importance of a consistent approach to feeding that begins at admission and supports infants in successful feeding for life. The infant-driven feeding (IDF) model is presented in contrast to traditional feeding culture and practice. This interactive course consists of seven chapters that illustrate the practical components of the IDF model including the correct use of the Infant-Driven Feeding Scales© for assessment and documentation of feeding readiness, feeding quality and caregiver techniques. And most importantly, the course demonstrates how and why the infant must drive the initiation and progression of feeding.
