This course is a seven-module online educational tool for registered nurses working in ambulatory surgery centers, endoscopy centers, physician office-based surgery centers and any other health care facility that provides moderate sedation without the presence of a licensed anesthesia care provider. This course will provide the level of education and training necessary to safely administer and monitor the patient receiving moderate sedation in an environment in which an anesthesia provider may not be available or may not be required. The learner will have four months in which to complete all seven modules. --Define the levels of sedation inclusive of general anesthesia --List the medications most commonly administered during moderate sedation/analgesia --Describe the appropriate nursing care in the pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural stages of care for patients who receive moderate sedation/analgesia --Define the recommendations for establishing appropriate patient selection criteria for the safe administration of moderate sedation
