Produced by: AWHONN - Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses
The purpose of Module 1 is to provide an overview of reproductive health and infertility. Pregnancy is achieved by the successful completion of a complex process that involves many steps. For pregnancy to occur naturally, a woman must ovulate or release an egg from her ovaries, a man’s sperm must travel and fertilize the egg by entering it, the fertilized egg must move through the fallopian tube to the uterus, then must implant onto the inside of the uterus. When there is a problem with any or several of these steps infertility may occur. The purpose of this module is to provide an overview of infertility, and review the causes, evaluation process, and treatment options.
